It’s the Most Wonderful Time Of The Year (TM), and we’ve got one more big slate of games tonight until the NHL goes on holiday break.

Why does that kind of feel like a threat?

Let me put it this way: Things have been so hard for so many teams this season that the hockey world has turned its lonely eyes to the Toronto Maple Leafs for stability and fun.

Look, it’s not all doom and gloom. Mental health advocate Patrik Laine’s delayed Canadiens debut was well worth the wait, as he’s got eight goals (and a sleeve full of friendship bracelets) in nine games.

The Washington Capitals are leading the Eastern Conference with tremendous vibes. Dylan Strome is playing the best hockey of his career, Charlie Lindgren is wildly entertaining in net, and head coach Spencer Carbery is doing us millennials proud as he ushers our generation’s coaching philosophies in.

Macklin Celebrini and Matvei Michkov are giving us the rookie performances we so craved. Despite their current rough patch, the Minnesota Wild are Finally, Actually, Good. The Golden Knig OK, we don’t have to go that far.

Point is, there are some teams and players worth tuning into tonight before we take a three-day break from this game we love.

Then, there’s a particularly high number of teams and players who are doing the Monday, Dec. 23 challenge where you just try to get through Monday, Dec. 23.

But who’s got it worst? Which teams and players are most looking forward to the relief of a holiday break?
