What if it's OK to be angry and ugly?

Hello, friends.

I had a ‘Midseason Vibe Check’ concept for this newsletter ready to go. I was going to write all about how the East is Easting, the Rookies are Rookie-ing, and the Ovi is Ovi-ing.

Can I tell you a secret? I almost didn’t write anything at all. I spent too much of the day equal parts mad at myself and mad at the world.

I was mad at myself for daring to be a woman expressing even an iota of anger on the internet. I know how that goes, and I know I wasn’t in the right headspace for it. I couldn’t resist doing it anyway, and I got what I deserved. I looked through the thousands of responses I’ve received this past week calling me ugly and angry, the two worst things a woman could ever be. Perhaps “ugly or hot” and “angry or docile” are the only things incels even think women can be.

I’m also, somehow, a secret third, contradictory thing: Employed because of my looks. The CEO of The Civ Report, a Tuxedo cat named Crab Rangoon, confirmed this was all true. She told me she hired me because I’m ugly, and she wanted to be the hottest little lady in the office.
